OUR STORY

WHY.  WHAT.

WHEN. WHERE.

WHO.

After finding an old catalogue for a Craft Biennale Scotland held in 1974 we began to imagine a new Craft Biennale Scotland and the opportunity for creating a new platform for discovering and presenting the very best international craft.

Our vision for a new Craft Biennale Scotland is to create a dynamic new international event with an adventurous programme of exhibitions, installations and participatory experiences, showcasing ambitious and inspirational new work by leading and emerging Scottish and International craft artists and collaborating with curators from around the world.

It will bring spectacular, exciting and intellectually engaging craft of the highest quality to Scotland inspiring artists and audiences of all ages from across the world.

We received support from Creative Scotland to carry out a feasibility study and audience and artist research during 2015/16 and in March 2017 we were awarded a small grant to develop the programme for 2018. Sadly, we did not receive the external funding necessary to hold the event in 2018.

However, we are currently developing new ideas for the way forward which we will share when they are in place.

The new Craft Biennale Scotland is an initiative by Really Interesting Objects, a social enterprise commited to promoting the value of craft and developing a deeper understanding through creating imaginative and exciting new ways to experience and engage with craft.
